Yorktown Victory Center
Two American milestones, one historic place…
1607 and 1781, and you are there…. The story of America’s beginnings – from the first permanent English settlement in 1607 to the decisive Revolutionary War victory in 1781 – is told at Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center.
Through film, indoor exhibition galleries and outdoor living history, discover the lives of English settlers and Powhatan Indians at the dawn of colonial America, and those of Continental Army soldiers and Tidewater farming families who endured the Revolution and witnessed the formation of the new nation.
Virginia Aviation Museum
The Virginia Aviation Museum is a division of the Science Museum of Virginia. This shrine to the “Golden Age of Aviation” enhances the Science Museum’s aerospace exhibits with its extensive collection of vintage flying machines. You’ll see Capt. Dick Merrill’s 1930s open cockpit mail plane; a special exhibit on Virginia’s legendary Adm. Richard E. Byrd and his Stars and Stripes, the first American scientific research aircraft to fly in Antarctica; airworthy replicas of the Wright Brothers 1900, 1901 and 1902 gliders; and a World War I SPAD VII in mint condition!Learn which planes earned the nicknames: Rolls Royce, Cadillac and Flying Bathtub.
Stroll past exhibits on pioneer aviation, World War II and the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame. Enjoy aviation films and lectures in the Benn Theater.
